Our Favorite Hair Accessory and Giveaway

Erica Robertson may not be a familiar name, but it's quite possible you've seen her work fashionably displayed around town. While she's new to the 'at-home' scene, she began selling handmade accessories in her Etsy Shop, GripzBandz, in August of 2011. The Texas native has been settled in Marvyille for about ten years with her husband and three children, ages 9,7, and 3. Robertson worked at the Blount Memorial Wellness Center for 8 years until about a month ago when she decided to stay at home full time.

Like most of us, Erica has experienced her share of embarrassing moments. "When I first started making the headbands and was still perfecting my sewing technique, I made one for myself, but forgot to sew the elastic in at one end. I was on my way to the gym and really wanted to wear it. Thankfully, I had a stapler in my car, so I just stapled it to make do until I could get home to fix it! Forgetting what I had done, I ran by the post office on my way home and a woman complimented me on my "cute" headband. She asked where I got it, so I proudly explained that I made it and told her about my Etsy shop. She asked if she could take a closer look at it, so I took it off and let her look. When she flipped it over and saw the staples, her expression turned from one of intrigue to confusion. I was so embarrassed. I explained to her what had happened and we both laughed. Needless to say, I never received an order from her."
Robertson was introduced to Esty by a friend, and like most of us became a frequent buyer. The crafter says she has always enjoyed making bows and headbands, especially for her girls, and knew that opening an Esty shop was the next step. "It enables me to display my items in a professional setting and provides a safe and secure avenue for me to sell my items and buyers to buy them with confidence." Robertson creates non-slip headbands, ribbon belts, and hairbows of all shapes, sizes and styles. Her headbands, GripzBandz, are stylish and as the name suggests, they stay in place. Erica says the stretchy elastic base allows a comfortable fit and eliminates the dreaded headache associated with many other styles. Because her products are handmade, she is able to customize each order to suit her customer's needs. In the past she has created accessories to match team colors, a runner's race attire, and swimsuits for vacation. "You tell me the theme or color and I will find the ribbon and make it!" I first discovered Erica's work displayed on a friend. Sally Joines was rocking an adorable headband and she immediately began to rave about her latest obsession when I offered a compliment. Joines raves about her Gripz Bandz collection. Seriously. If you're a fan of reviews, Sally offers the most convincing (and thorough) review in the history of headbands.

"Erica is awesome and so are her headbands. My only problem with her is that I believe she has made me an addict. Since I will probably never when a race, I enjoy having her headbands so that at least I will 'look good' when I finish. They are fun and functional. In addition to wearing them when I run, I wear them when I work out – they allow me to go from the gym to running errands without looking like a sweaty mess. When Erica started making them, I was quick to buy. I had purchased similar headbands from other retail stores and paid a much heftier price. I was tickled to find the quality of her headbands far surpassed any others I have bought. My priorities, when it comes to working out, are a good bra, good shoes, and a great headband."
*A word of warning to any potential purchasers – Sally may get vicious if she spots you in a print she loves. She is a runner, so flight may not be the best means of escape. Beware.
Whether you're going to an event, hitting the gym, or struggling to get out of your pajamas, Gripz Bandz are the perfect accessory to liven any outfit, even if it's a bathrobe. Erica is giving away two Gripz Bandz to one lucky winner –one for you and one for a friend (or two for you… whatever). You pick the colors! The giveaway begins immediately and lasts through May 8th.
